How nearme - Good Pub Guide works
nearme is an innovative new service that you use from your mobile telephone. Each time you make a request from nearme, the service locates you using your mobile phone handset, and then cross-references with our internet database system in order to recommend pubs from the printed edition of the Good Pub Guide.

Advantages over competitors 
nearme provides a very simple user interface compared to WAP browsing or SMS services. We display extended information such as opening times, reviews. Perfectly formatted for the small mobile phone screen and easy to navigate with only a few keypad presses. Once the application is on a phone, it is easy to reuse it (for WAP you'd have to remember to bookmark the url, and for SMS you'd have to remember shortcodes and keywords).

How much does it cost
50p premium rate SMS charge to your mobile phone bill to obtain the application. All nearme top-up costs are indicated within the application. Network operator data charges also apply. Charges – please check with your Network Operator for full details. Most operators nowadays offer flat rates for data transfer, so it is a good idea to opt into such a new flat rate tarrif.

The application is credit driven. Each credit is worth roughly 1p. When you first get it, it has 50 credits preloaded onto your account. You can purchase credits from within the application. The cost is added to your phone bill. The more you spend in one go the more credits you get for your money.

The following activities consume credit from your account:

- Doing a search and receiving a list of the 10 nearest pubs and an overview map (20 credits)
- Looking at the full details of one of the pubs (20 credits)
- Looking at a scrollable/zoomable map around a pub (20 credits)

A typical use of getting a list of 10 pubs near you, looking at the details of some of them and the map of one you decide to go to will end up costing you somewhere between £1 and £1.50.

Compared to SMS services this is excellent value, eg. compared to SMS price of £1 for 3 text results and a further £1 for a map. With our service you can have 10 results plus a map for 20p! And full details of any of those pubs for a further 20p. Compared to directory enquiries services this is cheap. You can easily pay 50p or more just to get the telephone number of somewhere.

Network Support
We are live in UK with Orange, Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2. 3 is under consideration, but this will not permit the all-important Cell-ID lookup, so you will only be able to search by town-name or postcode and not nearme. We are not planning to support Virgin-Mobile at launch, but this is something that is in development.
