Oxford Softworks short-listed as finalist in Navteq Global LBS Challenge

Oxford Softworks today announced that its advanced mobile Location Based Service
application has been short-listed as a finalist in the Navteq Global LBS Challenge, to be
judged during Mobile World Congress (3GSM) 2008. The company launched its pioneering
new mobile phone service running The Random House Group’s Good Pub Guide, offering the
growing number of wireless device users the most advanced and feature-rich Location Based
Service of its kind. Subsequent launches coming soon will provide datapoints across a much
more varied selection of destination-types that will appeal to a much wider demographic.
Datapoints will include restaurants, hotels, bed and breakfasts, bars, clubs, nightlife, arts,
shows, shopping, historic monuments. The service will extend to cover city guides, days out
and guided walks amongst others, but the possibilities are unlimited when it comes to content
types.

Oxford Softworks’ service pinpoints the consumer and then provides them with datapoints
sorted in distance order. Unlike directory services, Oxford Softworks’ data is of an advanced
nature and includes descriptions, directions, contact details, photographs, maps, menus and
pricing. It will shortly support user-generated content such as reviews, ratings and
photographs. Datapoints are all from branded and trusted sources, such as The Good Pub
Guide.

Users are located by GPS, location lookup through the network using the Cell ID of the local
base station, or they can also search by place name or postcode.

Oxford Softworks’ technology currently supports over one thousand mobile handsets globally,
and this is continuously expanding. The client application is easily re-skinned, and new builds
can be deployed within a matter or weeks.

It is emerging that mass market users of mobile phones are citing Location Based Services as
the must-have content, even ahead of mobile Internet access. Industry analysts predict that
mobile phone manufacturers will shortly be selling more units of GPS-enabled devices into the
mass-market than dedicated sat-nav device manufacturers.

Calvin Hutt, Director of Oxford Softworks said: “This is a really exciting period of development
within the mobile location based content arena. We have developed a brilliant and cost
effective service for anybody looking for a reputable destination whilst at home or away.”
